Tuition Undergraduate

For 21 credit hours, the resident tuition fee is $6166.23 and the non-resident tuition fee is $13,537.23. This does not include room & board.

Tuition Graduate

For 21 credit hours, the resident tuition fee is $7,126.23 and the non-resident tuition fee is $14,497.23.

Degrees

There are a total of 96 Bachelor’s, 87 Master’s and 12 doctoral degree programs offered by 9 individual colleges. At the College of Fine Arts & Communication, there are five different units, including the School of Journalism & Mass Communication, the School of Music, the School of Art & Design, the Department of Communication Studies and the Department of Theatre and Dance. The School of Journalism & Mass Communication offers a Bachelor of Arts degree in Mass Communication with 5 different concentrations and a Master of Arts degree in Mass Communication with 4 different concentrations. The School of Music offers a Bachelor of Music degree in Performance and Music Studies, a Bachelor of Science degree in Sound Recording Technology, a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music, and a Master of Music degree in Music and Music Education. The School of Art & Design offers a Bachelor of Arts degree in Art and Art History, a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Communication Design, Studio Art, Art Education and Photography, and a Master of Fine Arts degree in Communication Design. The Department of Communication Studies offers a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communication Studies with 3 different concentrations and a Master of Arts degree in Communication Studies with 5 different concentrations. The Department of Theatre and Dance offers a Bachelor of Arts degree in Theatre, a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Dance with 4 different concentrations and in Theatre with 6 different concentrations, a Master of Arts degree in Directing, Theatre History & Dramatic Criticism and Playwriting, and a Master of Fine Arts degree in Directing.

Scholarships

The new Terry Foundation Transfer Scholarships will be awarded on a competitive basis to non-freshman transfer students that show scholastic and leadership ability. Scholarships available to freshmen include the McCoy Scholarship of Excellence, the McCoy Scholarship of Distinction, the Lone Star Scholarship, University Scholars, which awards grants to freshman applicants from each department, the Chartwell’s Undergraduate Scholarship, and many more.

Financial Aid

Texas State University offers grants, work-study opportunities, student and parent loans, scholarships and nonresident tuition/fee waivers. To apply for financial aid, students must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Other foreign or non-citizen students may apply for state financial aid by completing the Texas Application for State Financial Aid (FASFA).

Undergraduate Programs

At the College of Fine Arts & Communication, there are five different units, including the School of Journalism & Mass Communication, the School of Music, the School of Art & Design, the Department of Communication Studies and the Department of Theatre and Dance. The School of Journalism & Mass Communication offers degree programs in Advertising, Electronic Media, Mass Communication, Journalism and Public Relations. The School of Music offers degree programs in Performance, Sound Recording Technology, Music and Music Studies. The School of Art & Design offers degree programs in Art, Communication Design, Studio Art, Art Education, Photography and Art History. The Department of Communication Studies offers a degree program in Communication Studies with concentrations in Interpersonal Communication, Organizational Communication and Persuasive Communication. Lastly, the Department of Theatre and Dance offers degree programs in Theatre, Pre-Professional Theatre, Acting, Performance and Production, Design/Technology, Musical Theatre, Dance Studies, Performance & Choreography and Pedagogy.

Graduate Programs

The School of Journalism & Mass Communication offers graduate degree programs in Strategic Communication, New Media, Latinos & Media and Global Media. The School of Music offers degree programs in Music, with concentrations in Brass/Percussion/Woodwind Performance, Choral Conducting, Composition, Guitar/Keyboard/String Performance, Instrumental Conducting, Latin Music Performance, Jazz Music Performance, Music History/Literature, Music History and Voice Performance, and in Music Education, with concentrations in Choral Music Education, General Music Education, Instrumental Music Education, Kodaly Music Education and Latin Music Education. The School of Art & Design offers a Communication Design Master’s degree program. The Department of Communication Studies offers degree programs in Communication Training & Development, Interpersonal Communication, Instructional Communication, Organizational Communication and Rhetorical Studies. Lastly, the Department of Theatre and Dance offers degree programs in Directing, Theatre History & Dramatic Criticism and Playwriting.

Continuing Education

The Continuing Education program offers subject-specific courses with no application process. Courses include face-to-face courses, correspondence courses and even courses online in a variety of subjects, such as human biology, environment & safety training, home inspector training, dentistry, graphic design, Microsoft, entrepreneurship, child development, technical writing, nutrition, and many more.

On Campus Clubs

The Student Organization Council (SOC) is in charge of regulating on campus organizations. All organizations must enhance social, cultural, recreational and/or educational development.
