The Instituto Superior de Diseño, a university in Havana Cuba, invited Purdue University to partake in the 2016 Festival De Cartel. Purdue University was the first American college to ever be presented in this show. Students from both schools created posters to be presented in the Festival with the general theme of "women".
My poster design is heavily influenced by Barbara Kruger, a conceptual artist who addresses feminist issues in her work. The woman I chose to display is my paternal grandmother. This photograph was taken of her in her early twenties, and goes perfectly with the overlaid quote by Lynn Hecht Schafran which says, “Why can men express their opinions and women must wear pearls and smile?”
My final poster ties in my family matriarchy with a strong female artist who is an inspiration.
