This project was inspired by the simplest of things: my best friend, a staycation gone awry, and a splitting hangover. I wanted to depict the idea of a summer spent indoors, full of the debauchery that typically ensues at a party, but in the sterile and safe environment of being at home. My goal for this project was to create a humorous representation of a chaotic weekend, both from my perspective aerially and the perspective of the participants in the mayhem.
The idea came to me in a collaborative drawing session with my friends. I value the creatives around me, most notably due to our vastly different mediums (one a painter, the other a ceramicist). All in our own creative ruts, we brainstormed props and concepts that we could weave into the images that would aid in fabricating the world of chaos in mind. The process was, much to my delight, reflective of the image itself. It was a party to create the aftermath of a party.
This project was deeply cathartic for me. Being in my early 20's and completing the last year of my degree online, I feel (like many) as if I am missing out on key experiences. The playful nature and collaboration of this project was not only creatively fulfilling, but really, it just made me laugh. I'm grateful for that.
