Assignment

The idea came from my daily sketches on my note book. I accidentally find out the shape of trapezoid has so many ways to display. It is very similar to the idea of tangram. So I decide to design a set of low-case typeface following the shape.

Approach

Firstly, I made almost every letters into four versions of trapezoid. Then, to solve the problem happened with the unity of vertical stroke, I have to decide which is the best solution for this typeface. Eventually, with the help of my instructor, I digitized my typeface.

Results

This typeface turns out to be a customized typeface. Letters like a, e, o, etc. would have several options in order to close the space between letters. It provides a condensed industrial form of text, presenting a sense of unity.

Assignment

The goal is to create a fake poster of Jonathan Ive's lecture with totally opposite design philosophy of Jonathan Ive.

Approach

After doing research of Jonathan Ive, I came up with several slogans to conclude his design. Then I tried out a couple of times to organize the text on the photo of my back. After I figured out the best solution, I asked my friend to paint on my back directly and took photos of me. To create the chaos within the image, I chopped my body into several parts and made them into pile to mimic the scene of model factory.

Results

It achieves the goal of being against Jonathan Ive's design philosophy. Besides, It carries a sense of eroticism and horror.
