The Stay Sane Covid Kit is a curated kit that helps users navigate the situation of social isolation with optimum mental health. As the pandemic spread in different parts of the world, people were subjected to an ongoing period of social isolation. This kit has guided activities, a self help journal and an application meant to create a healthy and positive experience for people who could not experience social interaction. This kit explores ways to help alleviate the mental anxiety and isolation felt during self-quarantine using a variety of different mediums.
1. Stickies - Sticky notes meant to communicate with others in a safe manner with quirky illustrations and positive messaging. 2. Activity Ideas Card - A number of ideas on what activities to have during the lockdown period. These spanned from meditating for two minutes to finding a playlist that soothes. 3. Guided Journal - This journal was specifically designed to guide the users to start their journey towards mindfulness by promoting them to pay attention to the things that they do on a daily basis. As the boundaries of time blur, and work and home becomes infused into one, being present and listening to the mind becomes more important. Divided into four sections, this journal crafted a journey for users to follow during the lockdown period. 4. Mood Calendar - Using a combination of simple data visualization techniques, this is a user filled calendar documenting their moods during the lockdown period. By participating in this activity, the user is reminded to stay present and keep track of their thoughts. Aided by the research from cognitive behavioral therapy techniques, this activity helps users take the first step towards paying more attention towards their thoughts to recognize harmful patterns and bring change to their emotional states. 5. Bloom : Bloom is a self help application that allows users to document and journal their day to day activities. The COVID component in this application is used to allow people to form small groups of people they trust to keep each other accountable. With the option to create different groups and chat rooms, this component of the application helps people stay in touch and look out for each other. The touch points at different aspects of the unboxing experience was specifically designed with the intention of creating a positive outlook within the user about the on-going social situation. The illustration style, color usage, language of copy were also specifically designed to create an approachable atmosphere to put users into a hopeful mental state.
The components within the kit were used for testing within friends and family - providing a number of different resources for them to use during the pandemic. The mood calendar was the most used component, with participants responding that it was saved as a reminder of the time during social isolation.
