The idea for this book was to bring a sense of freedom and fun to watercolor instruction, while covering the skills needed to get started. Through 100 experiments I was asked to teach traditional techniques like wet-on-dry and wet-on-wet painting, while also encouraging its users to play with their paint through colorful ombré tests and added elements like salts and sponges. Each experiment is accompanied by a hand-painted example and space to practice skills directly on the pages. Printed on thick, uncoated stock, with a lie-flat binding, this 256 page book is designed to be an enticing guide to contemporary watercolor.

To bring a contemporary feel to this book, my clean-lined watercolor style was paired with a minimal approach to graphic design. To insure that the book is accessible for all users, the techniques taught in each chapter build off each other, growing in complexity. I also start off each section with more basic swatch tests, transitioning to “A Work in Progress” spread, before ending in studies were I’m merging skills with ideas. And a unique feature of this book is that it's printed on paintable paper, allowing the user to have a seamless flow between learning about the medium and practicing their skills.
