SCAD admission requested guides to accompany students and educators through the university’s summer programs.
The university’s admission team requested captivating guides to supplement the SCAD summer programs: Educator Forum, AP Institute, Rising Star and Summer Seminars. The programs are held at three of the university’s four locations on three continents.
The highly successful programs are a critical component of the university’s student recruitment efforts, so making sure they are considered energetic and fun is crucial to their ongoing success. Bright colors with high contrast were selected, making the guides appealing while exuding a summer-like feel and theme. To provide a higher degree of design control and flexibility, a 3-D platform was executed instead of photographs. This technique allowed items to be arranged easily as well as to quickly change color, materials and lighting at any point in the process. It also enabled the colors used on all the objects to be completely consistent and uniform, reinforcing a theme for each program.
Each program’s syllabus and materials checklist inspired the objects chosen to represent course topics on the covers. For example, the thimble and spools of thread weave a fashion technology workshop, brushes and tubes of paint illustrate an acrylic painting seminar, a camera portrays digital photography exploration and a tablet with a character’s wireframe details a 3-D animation workshop. With Cinema 4D and Photoshop, the items for each cover were knolled, or laid flat in parallel or 90-degree angles, a popular method of organization. The covers enticed participants to examine the objects closely and learn more about their upcoming program.
Throughout the guides, summer icons were added as well, and each guide encouraged participants to download the SCAD app for more information. The interactive team also developed an applet specifically for the rising high school seniors — prospective SCAD Bees — that allowed them to sign up for events, follow social media posts with #SCADsummer and receive more information about their surroundings.
The client was extremely pleased with the lively and informative guides.
