Goal of the project was to create a movie poster that relied on hand manipulated type. The title movie (North By Northwest) was predetermined. A secondary goal was to create a fictional film festival logo and incorporate it into the poster.
I chose to take inspiration from the setting of the movie which was the Pacific Northwest, and a match which is a recurring tool from the movie. To manipulate the type, I used a wood-burning tool to burn the headline into a piece of wood then photoshop the headline onto the poster image. The film festival title was chosen because North By Northwest was selected by the Writer's Guild as one of the 101 best screenplays of all time.
The result is a movie poster with unique hand-manipulated type that represents the feel or a setting of the movie. The film festival logo represents the prestige and class of the Writer's Guild.
