The Roadworks Steamroller Printing festival is an all day long linocut block printing event. The festival features a 7 ton steamroller that acts as a brayer for a large block print. For these posters, I created a series of illustrations of unconventional printing brayers to fit the theme of the festival. In addition, all of the posters feature unique hand-done typography to enhance their individuality.
To approach this project, I originally started with monochromatic illustrations paired with my hand-done typography. I then layered the illustrations on top of each other, adding depth with different colors and textures. To round out the poster, I added the texture from a photograph of a paisley scarf in the background, as well as a teal color to give a bit more variety in the color.
I was quite pleased with how these posters turned out. They are different from my typical clean illustration style. However, I feel they lend themselves quite well to the rustic nature of the festival.
