Background: DNV GL is a result of the merger between DNV (Det Norske Veritas) and GL (Germanischer Lloyd). The company has 16,000 employees, split between 300 offices in more than 100 countries. The company is now the world’s largest classification company for ship and offshore structures, a leading supplier of verification and risk management services for the oil and gas industry, a leading company within wind power and the transmission and distribution of power, and one of the world’s largest certification companies.
The brief was to show how areas DNV GL work with are connected together by looking into details, but at the same time: seeing the big picture.
Also, the report needed to reflext on 2014 beeing the first year as DNV GL (after the merger), and that the company has a 150 year history.
This year’s report shows clear signs of a first full year of operations for the merged DNV GL. And together with the fact that both DNV and Germanischer Lloyd has 150 years of experience as classification societies, a lot of perspectives are at hand: Both the long lines and the brief moments, the comprehensive overviews and the little details – in the past and for the future – together they formed the basis for many of the stories in this year’s report. This year, the purpose was to tie them all together to give the big picture.
The big picture – in details: DNV GL consists of four Business Areas. In this year’s report, they have received their respective ’landscape’ that gives the reader a good overview – the big picture – of DNV GL’s business areas. Every ’landscape’ is then again ’detailed’ further more, four cases that provide additional information and explanation are selected. Using detailed fact boxes, graphs and illustrations the different details are tied together to form the big picture.
