The designer’s examination of the theme of change over time and the longing for a home, which we often look for outside and/or in the past.
The topic “change“ has been broken down into a concrete, current situation in the region: The structural change in the Ruhr area in 2018 is particularly in the public focus, because the last coal mine in the Ruhr area has been closed down. The end of the mining chapter is accompanied by nostalgic feelings. The old is coming to an end, the new has not yet arrived. People long for the pleasant acquaintance they associate with the past. This is to be expressed.
The poster shows an aging garden dwarf who looks over the fence at the industrial landscape of the Ruhr with melancholy. He is homesick. "Heimweh" takes into account an era that is coming to an end, which has said goodbye with respect and melancholy. Heimweh is often translated as home sickness in English, but this is not quite the case. It is less a "sickness" than a feeling of longing and nostalgia that comes to an end at the moment when a person reflects on himself and finds his home in the here and now.
