The assignment was to create the alphabet with physical objects that could be found around the house or nearby. I was assigned to create this project with strong typographical expression and a strong concept.
Approach
I wished to create something that would pose a challenge for me, which led me to the idea to use elements found in nature. The typeface that is paired with the elements is ITC Calson 244 Bold. The challenge was to make sure that I found elements that supported the vast contrast in weight within the type and that each leaf and twig were placed with precision.
Results
While this project was a challenge, with weeks of hard work and attention to detail, the outcome was marvelous. There was a strong reaction to the final outcome, mainly commenting on how everything fit together beautifully from the type to the color.
