A poster to raise awareness in Japan of the marine plastic waste problem. The goal was to increase awareness and to target different groups of people than before.
We took the problem very seriously. By printing the visuals directly on garbage bags created from plastic waste, we broadened the framework of a poster, and by making announcements as artworks in the form of exhibitions, we visualized the marine plastic waste problem. Furthermore, by taking a new approach using only graphics without using real-life images of garbage, plastic, animals, etc. for both the graphics and video, we aimed to reach a different age group.
The Ministry of the Environment of Japan has a similar project called Plastics Smart. The project called attention to our efforts and there was a great response. In addition, it was highly evaluated by various design awards in Japan, which greatly helped in raising awareness of this problem among young people.
