The assignment was to design a book jacket and print collateral for a well-known, classic book. As well as the book jacket, I had to design three book marks, three coasters, a coffee cup and sleeve, and a table tent.

My approach to this problem was that I wanted to get away from all the cliches associated with "The Old Man and the Sea," like boats, fish, and the ocean. Instead I decided to make the design a portrait of the old man, using photography and a more modern type treatment.

I love how this project turned out. I think it is a very unique interpretation of an old classic, and I have never seen "The Old Man and the Sea" approached in this way before. Also, the man on the cover is my father.
