The assignment was to combine a letterform and an object of some kind to create a logo.

I used the shape of an onigiri (Japanese rice ball wrapped in seaweed) to reference the shape of a capital letter "A", with the seaweed referencing the crossbar of the letter "A". After this, I created the name "Aki", meaning autumn in Japanese, which is a favorite season of many people and conjures up imagery of cool nights, falling leaves, and sharing food.

The result is a logo, which I laser cut, inked, and printed using an etching printing press, in order to reference the many wooden serving devices and flatware that is used in Japanese cuisine, as well as the prevalence of wood in Japanese architecture and many other artifacts of Japanese culture.
