I wanted to take the traditional magazine cover model and turn it into a work of art. With the appropriation of photographers' work due to social media and websites, I wanted to create images that can not be copied and turn my subject into a work of art. Therefore, I collaborated with a celebrated and highly collected Post-Modern American artist, David Salle. Together with Salle, we took my images of Scarlett Johansson and worked them within Salle's paintings from his recent exhibition, "Musicality and Humour" at the Skarstedt Gallery in London, England.
I first photographed Johansson against a white backdrop. We then took those images, along with images of Salle's paintings, and began creating a series of collages that placed Johansson within this magical world of post-war American iconography.
The feedback was so spectacular that we created a series of pillows, poufs, scarves, and dresses depicting the collages and sold them through Paddle 8 and asifmag.com.
