Logo development for “Asahi Kindergarten” located in Minamisanriku, Miyagi prefecture. Minamisanriku, Miyagi prefecture is a devastated area struck by the Great East Japan Earthquake on 11th March 2011. The kindergarten building was carried away by the Tsunami. Later, the kindergarten was rebuilt as a symbol of restoration with many supports. Our assignment was to create a logo that stands as a Minamisanriku reconstruction symbol.
Approach
One of the intentions of this logo was to make the earthquake victims cheerful and happier so we depicted a smile in a simple form. The rings in the logo portray 3 powers of children taken from Asahi Kindergarten’s educational philosophy - passion in pink, honest mind in green and ambition in blue.
Results
Seeing the kindergarten logo and the children smiling happily gave many people in Minamisanriku hopes to get over the tragic memories.
