Canada Post always creates tasty treats for stamp collectors worldwide. They issued the design of five famous Canadian desserts. The delicious series included the Nanaimo bar, Saskatoon berry pie, butter tarts, tart au sucre, and blueberry grunt.

Subplot worked closely with Mary Ellen Johnson from the beginning of this project, having seen her work online and being struck by her photorealistic paintings of food. To stay true to the subject matter Subplot made sure not only the desserts were crafted by hand (from baking to the final painting), but also continued this attention to detail and authenticity on all products in this series. The typewriter script visible throughout the OFDC and booklet was created on a vintage typewriter, scanned and digitally finessed, one letter at a time. The crumbs visible on the OFDC, which we shot in our studio, probably left us with one of the sweetest memories of this production – someone had to eat all those butter tarts to produce the crumbs after all.

In addition to the five stamps, Subplot designed a booklet and a OFDC.
