Blake’s Hard Cider Co partnered with the Human Rights Campaign for the launch of their new Pineapple and Sage Hard Cider that benefits the LGBTQ community and needed a new 12 oz can (6-pack) designed.
I chose to design the can to represent the tropical flavor profile (Pineapple & Sage Hard Cider) clearly but also uses the Rainbow Flag’s color scheme in a fun and unexpected way that would stand out and help bring awareness to their message of inclusion.
The name Rainbow Seeker was chosen because of Blake’s commitment to seeking love and equality within the community (and everything that the rainbow flag stands for).
The taste of Rainbow Seeker is perfected complimented by summer which helps reinforce the pineapple flavor of this product and the season which it is available. The typography and imagery on the can is inspired by designs from the 60’s which also helps reinforce the equality message and inviting flavor profile.
Typical printing of cans only allow for 6 colors including white as a mandatory color, but we felt it necessary to include the 6 colors of the rainbow so we decided to go with cans that were based coated white first to allow us to print the actual 6 colors of the rainbow as well as have them appear more crisp and saturated. An extra expense in production that we feel is well worth it for this design.
The partnership with The Human Rights Campaign (www.hr.org) was extremely important for Blake’s and is their first national charity they have created a custom can with and so far they have received an overwhelmingly positive response.
