EBD was tasked with developing a poster for the documentary Rolling Papers (by Listen Productions) for the SXSW debut. The film follows the legalization of recreational marijuana in Colorado. We were allowed complete creative freedom beyond the film’s graphics, in the hope’s of better representing the topic at hand.
Since the film featured Denver Post’s Cannabist column, we used newspaper images to create the graphics. The old school joint and silkscreen technique were meant to symbolize how far the marijuana industry had come and how journalism was playing a part in that.
"As you might gather from the poster below, “Rolling Papers” is a play on two very different industries — legal marijuana and newspaper-rooted journalism — and it explores the lives of various Denver Post and Cannabist writers who covered legal weed’s first big year in Colorado, Uruguay and beyond.” -The Cannabist
The poster was such a hit that the poster became the official graphic for the film, rather than the film’s graphics. EBD also received numerous requests for reproductions.
