For this assignment, we had to create a magazine from scratch, which meant we were the art director, copy editor, illustrator, photographer, and of course, designer. Stated plainly, every microscopic detail was accounted for and curated by us.
NEWS (North, East, West, South) was my response to this project brief. This magazine acts as a guide for anyone interested in trying new things, which in this case meant hiking and backpacking. The articles in this magazine focused on instructional stories along with first-hand accounts from beginners in this hobby. My designs all focused on utilizing texture to capture the tactile essence of the great outdoors. In terms of color, green, yellow, orange, and blue were used throughout the magazine to again reference nature and the colors one might see on an excursion.
My magazine conveyed the overall feeling of the outdoors, starting with the unusual moss cover. When diving deeper into the magazine, the outdoors are again shared with the aforementioned textures and colors. Overall, the intended spirit of the magazine was achieved, and every detail was accounted for.
