SCAN is a well-renowned, student print magazine of the Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD), Atlanta. This quarterly run periodic magazine is entirely managed by SCAD students who determine the theme and editorial content for each edition. The current spring issue 2021, is based on the theme “Contradictions”.

This issue explores the very dichotomy and counter-intuitive nature of art and life. The magazine spread brings to light the day-to-day conflict one encounters in one’s way of life and thinking. Each editorial highlights the different paradox that has seeped into various art forms and through that depicts the very nature of contradiction as a reflection of human life of today. Particularly, the artist and the authors have used bold typography, illustrations, and complementary color schemes to justify the theme of “Contradictions” in all the stories that make up this magazine spread. This unique design execution is an amalgamation of different ideas, visual perspective and different take an artist could have depicting one’s own contradictions.

Recently this issue magazine won various awards from Michigan State University Society for News Design Awards ( MSUSND), ACP Magazine Pacemaker USA, College Media Associations– Pinnacle Awards, for which I was awarded as the Best student designer of the year 2021, Best Magazine Entertainment Page/ spread, Best Magazine Feature spread. This magazine is sponsored and published by SCAD, and hence various parents and students have also appreciated this SCAN magazine spring issue as it represents the work of the SCAD students and highlights the SCAD diversity.
