The assignment was to create a design for the U.S. Postal Service’s series of Love stamps with a new approach that would both appeal to romantic taste and to a wider constituency sending correspondence for a variety of occasions where love is expressed.

Skywriting messages—both public and intimate—are a magical experience for spectators and an unforgettable one for the beloved. The stamp designer—with a longtime interest in using skywriting as an unusual way to express herself with typography—worked with the illustrator to create this celebratory design appropriate for sending cards and letters to anyone you love.

This very popular design has sold over 200 million stamps.
