Assignment
The assignment to create a new font was influenced by the Wagner Free Institute of Science.
Approach
We looked at a variety of sources and decided that we would take our creative direction from the handwritten labels created by one of the Institutes 19th century curators. Willison is a new digital font, based on the exquisite labels by Charles Willison Johnson, one of the museum’s founding curators in the late 19th century.
Results
The font is a unique typeface that adds to the Institutes brand and also helps to bridge the past and the present at the Wagner Institute. We also added an AR (augmented reality) component to these posters. When the App 'Artivive' is downloaded on phones https://artivive.com/ viewers can look through the App at the posters and see the 26 letters that have been created floating above the image in 3D.
A scavenger hunt was created as part of the launch of the font. The posters complimented 26 cards each containing one letter, and were placed inside cases around the museums. When viewers found a card they could look through the ARTIVIVE App and see the letter in 3D motion.
