This very successful gardener's market has grown every year and now has become an important popular social happening every Saturday morning in the Summer. While locally grown vegetables still take center stage, there are increasingly more vendors with related local products such as jams, cheeses, organic hand-crafted clothing, organic eggs, etc. My solution featured a prominent rooster in the pumpkin/kale patch and touched on the backyard chicken husbandry craze that harkens back to the Sixties and Seventies back-to-the-earth movement. With this in mind, I also used the rooster to symbolically convey its connection with comprehensive organic gardening. Letting chickens out into the garden during the day provides an important source of organic fertilizer, while at the same time eliminating any need for pesticides. The butterfly further symbolizes this comprehensive organic approach. Without exposure to lethal chemicals, it can exist in the garden to freely pollinate flowers, that is, if it's alert enough to evade the ever watchful rooster.
