This photograph was taken at a plant nursery, a place often taken for granted when it comes to photographic subject matter. I came across a raised pond of water lilies at the perfect height for photographing. The one in the picture was isolated from the others, so it drew my attention immediately. I decided to frame the flower to one side, leaving a lot of negative space, allowing the lily’s pedals to reach out into the abyss. The clean background is the shallow, black-bottomed pond the flower inhabited.
