The assignment was to create an all-type book jacket for a banned book. Using the background of the story, creatively design a concept that will give the reader an idea of what the mood and story-line of the book. I also chose to create my own content on the inside of the book in order to make the exact size and gold outline of that of a standard bible.

Go Tell It On The Mountain is a spiritual/ coming of age novel written in the language of the King James Bible. The main conflict of the book involves a pastor and his son and their religious struggle as they battle racial discrimination.
That being said, I wanted the book cover to resemble a King James Bible, drawing mainly from the design of the spine. I decided to use black to represent African Americans in darkness during slavery. The book cover is gold to show light in the midst darkness, which is exactly what the gospel (and the main character) embraces.

I took a risk using techniques i've never tried before and it paid off. I learned something new and that is always a positive result.
