Imanol Bengoetxea was born in Andoain (Spain) in 1962. At the age of 13, their parents were struggling financially, so they decided to move with the whole family to a smaller town, completely changing their lifestyle. Imanol then began to help his father in masonry and construction, while a great interest in art was growing in him. In his spare time, he began to get acquainted with the different disciplines and made his first drawings with pencil and charcoal.

Lonely in nature, Imanol spent more and more time expanding his artistic restlessness and creating paintings - and also sculptures - on all kinds of materials that found thanks to his work as a mason: cement sacks, paint canisters, bottles, doors...

Imanol died young, at the age of 31 (1993), and his entire artistic legacy was stored for years in the loft of the family home until, after 20 years, one of his sisters decided to rescue and restore all his works, of high artistic interest, and organize an exhibition thanks to the support of the City Council of Pamplona (Navarra - Spain). Both the exhibition and the life of Imanol are embodied in this book, entitled "Imanol Bengoetxea -artista".

The book, of a notebook format (170x240mm) to be agile and manageable, reflects two fundamental aspects: Imanol's personality and his style of artistic creation.

The book covers are made of recycled cardboard, in clear reference to Imanol's style of reusing materials to portray his works. The title of the book is located at the top of the cover, in one ink, and comes "camouflaged" by a small strip of painter's duct tape. These types of tapes linked to the world of masonry generate some transparency because of their low grammage; this helps making the text intending to "hide" or "camouflage" still readable. An effect that somehow underscores that solitary and withdrawn character of Imanol. And it does it from the beginning of the book.

The interior is divided into two clearly differentiated parts. On the one hand the section of works, in a stumped paper that faithfully represents the author's chromatic palette. And on the other hand, the bio of the artist, embodied in a more porous and rougher paper, which highlights that source from Imanol with the materials. This section, with more text load, features faceted typography, with certain irregularities, to emphasize that manual style that Imanol had.

The commission of the book involved a significant emotional burden for the family. It was the first time Imanol's works would be publicly exhibited, and this logically created some previous uncertainty: who and how would Imanol's life be translated into a book? The result was very well received, both by the family and by the head of the culture area of the City Council of Pamplona, mainly because of the coherence and the "invisible" thread between the style of publication and the personality of Imanol.
