I began by focusing on data specific to the demographics of current students compared to alumni. I wanted to show that even after graduation, SCAD's substantial active alumni can allow communities to flourish as separate entities within the SCAD universe, showing that you will always be part of the greater community.
My solution was to create a galaxy to show the vast network of SCAD, that allows student's to be their own star, while still having a universe to call home. The use of hexagons were an homage to SCAD's mascot, art the bee, while being a symbol of SCAD as a whole. Hexagon's were then able to represent every community from campus, to active alum.
Every circle represents an individual that has either entered the galaxy (graduated, active alum) or is within the hive, or sun (current students).
Each state or country is listed alphabetically, and has its own personal color.
