Help stigmatize the problem of statutory rape in Milwaukee, which is one of the leading causes of teen pregnancy there. Shockingly, 72% of babies born to underaged teens in Milwaukee are fathered by adults, 20 and older.
Create a powerful outdoor campaign that shows the real consequences of adult men having sex with younger teens. The ads take the language that older men use to convince young girls to have sex (that age is just a number)…and finishes the thought by saying…If age is just a number, jail is just a room. Or If age is just a number, then sex offender is just a nickname. The chilling images of guys in police cars, getting fingerprinted, and jail cells accompany the headlines.
The campaign created a media frenzy in Milwaukee on the subject of statutory rape and inspired urban radio talk show hosts to spread the message about the insidious nature of statutory rape in the community and how it affects teen pregnancy. The campaign is a part of the city's 6-year teen pregnancy prevention effort that has helped to reduce teen pregnancy there by over 50%.
