Mercy Malaysia UK commissioned me to create a fundraising campaign poster to promote a charitable mission to Mandalay, Myanmar to deliver cleft lip and palate surgery to the children at the Sithagu Hospital.
Approach
I chose to create a sympathetic visual that used a Burmese child with the national flower of Malaysia (the hibiscus) covering their mouth up. The flowers were tagged to the colours of Malaysia (home of the charity) and I wrote the simple call to action — Make Me Smile — as a statement to garner awareness of the clinical mission. I subtly added a reflection of the surgeons in progress into the child's eyes.
Results
The poster was subsequently used across a number of events. Mercy Malaysia UK exceeded there fundraising target and the mission to Myanmar to operate on the multiple children in need of the cleft lip and palate surgery was a success.
