The assignment was to take an existing album, redesign and re-purpose it to target a specific audience using our own artwork from an artistic creative approach.

To begin the project I picked one song,"Mind Over Matter" by Young the Giant and dissected its meaning and feeling. I created a poured acrylic painting on canvas that captured the "breakdown" of the mental obstacles that gave the band writers block on the album. I used this texture for the majority of the album and also added yellow accent blocks. Yellow was added for the sense of optimism hinted to in the lyrics. I kept the same typeface choices used in their past albums to give it some unity with previous designs. This album is meant to be sold as an alternate album with alternate acoustic "in the open" versions of their songs. Included is a ticket to a private show.

The final design captures the essence of the music on the album. The painted textures successfully portray the music featured on the album and the content is organized in an organic yet structured manner.
