My goals for this project were to show the audience the beauty in a Mississippi summer. Yes, it is extremely hot and extremely humid and almost impossible to go outside without wanting to cannonball in a swimming pool, but the summers can also be the most beautiful and relaxing days. What I wanted to capture in these were the beautiful Mississippi activities spent on a lake. Pictured the first image is of a man fishing while the sun is setting. My goal in this photo was to show the beauty in a Mississippi sunset. This is the same sunset I have gotten to experience all my life. I get a warm special feeling from that sunset and that feeling is exactly what I wanted to capture. I cropped the image to fit enough of the lake in as well as the beautiful grass and have the model more towards the left. The way the light is perfectly shining on the model works great to create the golden-hour feel. The next two photos in this series are of the same model sailing on the same lake. The lighting was working great and really accentuated the colors in the photo. These two photos are so clear and clean, they almost look fake.
I was determined to take my camera with me everywhere I go so that I could just take photos of the beautiful Mississippi that I very often take for granted. My goal was to make anyone that saw these photos actually see Mississippi as a desirable place. I took my camera on a sailboat and took as many pictures as I could. I went out on the sailboat at many different times of the day to capture that clean and bright lighting. As for the fishing picture, I had to wait until the perfect moment. Sunsets do not last long, so I had to snap that photo from many different angles until the light was hitting perfectly off the model's back.
What worked well in these photos is the lighting. These are two very different types of lightings as well as very different times of the day. These pieces were meant to be colorful and fun and as if they belong in a magazine.
