American History Unbound is an innovative series of multi-media productions developed at the New-York Historical Society and performed at Carnegie Hall. The groundbreaking series, exploring watershed moments in American history, combines live music performed by celebrated Broadway actors and a full orchestra, lecture, film and photography, as well as historic flags and material culture from the personal collection of the series’ creator and narrator John Monsky.
The American History Unbound trademark needed to capture the energy of this unique multimedia experience, while comporting with preexisting partner trademarks such as that of Carnegie Hall. The solution juxtaposed red rectangular bars, reminiscent of the American flag and Carnegie Hall trademark, on an x- and z-axis to form an explosion of shape and energy. The result reads like pages of a book opening and separating from the spine or a cage bursting open from its center.
The American History Unbound trademark received instant acclaim and helped generate excitement for the trajectory of the series. It was immediately used on promotional videos, press releases, websites, etc., and garnered professional recommendations and new business.
