Exekias is a potter and painter who signed his work. He lived 550 bc in Athens. Worldwide there are forty pieces around, twenty of them are shown at the first monographic exhibition, at the Archeological Collection in Zurich. G+A was asked to design all visual communication for this exhibition on Exekias.
Exekias signed his work with the words "Exekias painted and made me". We proposed it as name for the exhibition.
As they are very antique, old, these vases are pached together from single pieces. This and the duality – painter and potter – is what the poster expresses. We split up the subject in different pieces. There are pieces focussing on the form of the vase and others on the painting aspects of this great artist: Exekias painted and made me.
