The goal was to create a poster for Texas Cinema, an event honoring Texas films and the history of cinematography in Texas. I was inspired by posters for films such as "Giant", "The Alamo", and "The Searchers".
I used Big Tex as a recognizable iconic image and tried to emulate a distressed letterpress look with Tex. I tried to make my headline resemble an old-fashioned 3D movie that pops out of the screen. I also incorporated my copy at the bottom to emulate the credits on a movie poster.
I incorporated 3D glasses and a red and blue color scheme to tie in my movie idea while also incorporating Big Tex. This helped to pay homage to the color scheme of an old-fashioned 3D movie, and the font I used for my headline was a tribute to the slab-serif fonts famously used in most western movie posters. The use of the font in the headline paired with Big Tex's recognizable image made this a successful tribute to Texas films.
