This is a 2023 year calendar design, inspired by the board game Monopoly. People could read through the calendar date by date the same way as jumping step by step on a board game. The calendar not only shows the month, date, and day of the week, but also contains the phase of the moon and a short introduction of each month's holiday. The calendar sheet is stick to a square wooden brick, so people can stand it on surfaces and rotate it. This calendar would be a fun accessory in the home or office.
The idea started from wanting to create a fun and joyful calendar. When I think of fun, memories of playing monopoly as a child come to my mind. So I thought, why not design the calendar into a board game? Most of the design processes were smooth: I used different colors to represent different days of the week, and used small icons to show the four phases of the moon. But after finishing the graphic design, I realized a problem: the calendar needs to be rotated four times a month for people to read, it would be too troublesome if it was hanging on a wall like a usual calendar. So I came up with the idea of sticking it to a square wooden brick. It not only solved the rotation problem, but also made the calendar into a pretty accessory to place on a table or windowsill.
I collected this calendar into my senior portfolio, receiving positive reactions from professors and interviewers.
