For this assignment, we were given a limited range of boxes and were asked to pick one as the package for a product of our choosing. We then had to design a brand for our chosen product and box.
I chose this box because of its large circular opening at the front. I felt that this could be emphasized by surrounding design elements to draw the viewer in. I ended up choosing a color changing lightbulb for my item, because it could clearly be displayed through this circle due to its round shape. Upon researching existing packages for lightbulbs, I found that most of them were boring and not capitalizing at all on the younger audiences. So, I decided to target my brand towards teenagers and young adults, and thus opted for eye-catching colors and an interlocking circular pattern in order to both grab their attention and create a sense of youth and excitement about the brand.
The lightbulb was a perfect choice for this packaging; the placement of the circular cut out low on the box meant there was a perfect amount of room at the top of the box for the screw in part of the bulb. Additionally, I was able to wire the lightbulb in the package allowing the lightbulb to be on while on display in stores.
