To design a logo for an urban horticulture business called gardening devils.
My approach was to dig deep into the history of devilish imagery and its association with nature.
While the Gardening Devils logo only has two layers of meaning, the central layer has a rich history. The central layer of meaning in the mark is the face of the green man, a common motif found on old churches and pubs in the UK and Europe, which in turn is derived from a vegetative deity of pre-Christian Europe, the worship of whom was demonized as the work of the devil as Christianity spread to the British Isles. Simply to further emphasize the devilish aspects of the mark, two leaves have been made to look like horns.
