The international standard for basketball lacked setting a standard for consistent design across it's global brand. This branding project for FIBA created a cohesive brand hoping to achieve a solidarity between the different functions and countries that this cooperation spanned.
To start, the logo uses strong typography to create a solid rectangle. The tittle of the i rests right above this shape, indicating that FIBA holds up the world of basketball. Variations of this idea were created for secondary logos to be used in different applications across the brand. To visually describe the strategy of basketball, but to speak to the competitiveness of the sport, a grid was created to create a hierarchy with the elements overlapping and competing against each other and the edges of the compositions.
Overall, the project achieves its aims to create an identity that can be used consistently over a global brand. There are clear rules to follow, but still a freedom to allow the competitiveness of the sport to be shown.
