The poster was developed in response to Japan's insistence on hiding behind scientific research to justify their slaughter of whales. The issue is particularly topical in Australia where the populace is quite vocal in its opposition to this practice.
We wanted to avoid the stereotypical image of a whale with a "Save the Whale" headline. Instead we approached the poster with a more emotive spilling of blood in the water. The viewer is left to imagine the brutal slaughter that caused this.
The poster was a small voice in a loud cry. Recently the International Court of Justice ruled Japan's whale hunting illegal. Japan has agreed to abide by the ruling. The way forward is not clear however, with Japan announcing that it will shift its attention to the Northern Ocean, which they claim is not covered by the court's ruling.
