Students will choose from an instructor-provided list of real-world Festivals (of musical, theatrical, or cultural genres) to create a branding campaign for an entire Festival event. Students will conduct comprehensive research related to their festival of choice. After gathering information and analyzing the design problem, students will complete a creative brief, develop strategic mood/inspiration panels, establish key words, develop mind maps, etc, in order to create a logo and identity system which will be applied to stationery magazine ads, posters, street banners, brochures, and webpage design.
I wanted to go with a cultural approach because when I found about this festival I wanted to know more about it. As I went into my intensive research, It helped me become more culturally aware of this beautiful Indian tradition along with the symbolism of victory over evil. So my approach for my poster was to a create a visual concept of light vs darnkess and to help spread cultural awareness to the viewers.
The results were to focus on light vs. darkness, so I decided to go with a dark background to represent evil and having the bright, warm and colorful powder explosion in the mid-ground to create impact, and contrast with light. I also decided to use typography to spread the message and have the dancer intertwine with the words to show unity and harmony.
