The MUSIC ILLUSTRATION AWARDS 2015 was an event where 59 artists debuted new pieces of art made using a 2-inch vinyl record as a canvas. OUWN were asked to design a poster for the event which combined the work of all 59 artists.
Even if they’re using the same sized record to create their work, different artists will paint different pictures. Each individual artist will have their own thought process. OUWN chose to express those differing ways of thinking through dots of varying sizes. OUWN made the various dots overlap with one another—giving birth to a sort of cluster which also represents the experience shared by all those who attended the event. By using different kinds of tools—pencils and paint—OUWN was able to incorporate techniques that the very artists taking part in the event employ in their work.
The event's fame increased, leading to a rise in attendance figures. The poster has also received praise from the Japan Graphic Designers Association and the next event is expected to increase in scale.
