In 2017, Calik Denim celebrated its 30th year with the Denim Loves Art project. As a part of this project, Calik Denim created "30 Years, 30 Talents" book to share the journey through thirty different denim stories, originating from different parts of the world.
The book documents how Calik’s denim fabric was transformed during Denim Loves Art, a socially minded project showcasing 30 denim pieces by 30 young international designers at three special events held in Istanbul, Amsterdam and Los Angeles.
From its creation, denim became an essentialitem of clothing. More than just a fabric, denim has changed notions of class, age and gender. Worn and loved by the whole world, denim has a unifying power and represents a way of life. It has become the symbol of freedom, rebellion and youth and has evolved into a cult concept.
Calik Denim began the Denim Loves Art project to show the legendary trademark denim fabric in its different states and combine it with the power of art and design. To share our thirtyyear adventure, we found thirty young artists from the world’s leading design, textile and interior design schools with the hope that this book which documents all stages of the project, and denim fabric, will continue to inspire future generations.
After a long screening process, the designers were selected by industry professionals. Each wrote a new chapter in the history of denim, by showing its unexplored aspects through their individual discipline, influenced by their different personalities and cultural backgrounds.
Each chapter is devoted to each of the designers allowing them to describe the process in their own words, revealing how their personal story informed and inspired their work which takes denim to a new level. The use of striking colour photography beautifully illustrates each design.
We are passionate about denim and have made it our mission to keep it innovative, durable, dynamic and sustainable – all qualities inspired by the nature of the material. Pioneering every era, denim was the inspiration behind this global, multidisciplinary project, recognised as the first in the sector.
With this book, Calik Denim invites people on a visual journey through thirty different denim stories, from around the world. The ultimate aim of this book is to continue to inspire future generations to work with the iconic fabric which is so versatile, innovative and rewarding: denim.
After 6 days of photoshooting done by Ali Kabaş - Photography Artist and Yetkin Başarır - Creative Director, a structure of the book was created to include all the details of 30 global designers, from their daily experience to denim design and production processes.
Starting from the introduction and the details of the jury meeting; the book has a structure in which the story of each design & designer are included. Also, each design was accompanied by photographs taken as a work of art...
First of all, the book preserves its place because it was designed with an unprecedented approach in the industry. Everyone who reached this book in the industry expresses their satisfaction by underlining how remarkable the work is, from the details of the project to the photographs, artworks and stories. The project attracted great interest by the media in the industry like WWD, Sportswear International, Wear and so on... Calik Denim also continue to receive demand from people out of the industry via social media.
