Cove is a learning app designed for elementary-aged, bilingual children. Created for learning in 6 different languages, kids can practice vocabulary, spelling, or math alongside playful sea creatures. Not only is instant feedback available, but parents can choose to forward feedback to educators and others who may benefit from access. Regardless of a child's story or background, Cove is here to serve their needs and meet them right where they're at.
In designing this app, I consulted a teacher and gained her insight into the ways that bilingual children struggle in her class each day. From there, I chose the lesson content and formulated the app to be a friendly interface to welcome in young learners. Additionally, to best suit children of such a young age, I found it crucial that the app was easy to navigate and simplistic to the eye--this had a large impact on my selection of design elements throughout the process.
Cove not only appeals to a child due to the sea creatures and playful nature of the typeface, but it serves as an effective tool because of the subject areas detailed in the app. The individual elements such as imagery, typography, and content prove that this app was created to serve children of all backgrounds.
