Assignment
Personal project and life adventure. Crossing the ocean on a cargo ship has been a dream of mine for several years. I was able to book passage on a container ship leaving London and traveling to France and then across the Atlantic to the Caribbean. My goal was to document life on the ship and to create a body of work for my portfolios and also inclusion in stock photography libraries.
Approach
My approach was to show the ship traveling through the ocean at dusk and during a storm. I received permission from the Captain to mount my Nikon to a railing on the Monkey Deck and shoot long exposure images. The goal was to have the ship retain focus and the ocean to blur from the forward movement and long exposure.
Results
Excellent response to this image in my portfolio. This image has been licensed several times through Corbis. Two collections of the images are available for licensing, one set via Corbis and another selection through GalleryStock.
