In 2020, Maine celebrated 200 years of statehood. Given the significance of the event, the Office of Tourism wanted to create an official, commemorative logo to mark the occasion.
Approach
The logo had to accomplish a dual task. To celebrate the state’s bicentennial and be uniquely Maine. This couldn’t look like a logo that could be mistaken for Missouri. The idea was to focus on one of Maine’s iconic landmarks and then incorporate the 200 numerals seamlessly into the design.
Results
The people of Maine take great pride in their state. So, a mark that felt ownable and spoke to the state’s heritage, was fully embraced by Mainers. The logo has become a unifying symbol and source of pride statewide.
