il gelato expanded their existing range of authentic Italian gelati with the ‘indulgent range’. Five contemporary gelati and one frozen yoghurt required a design which embraced their commitment to producing extraordinary quality gelato to authentic Italian recipes. The range needed a boutique look which retells the story of this family-owned business, their Italian heritage and passion for creative indulgence.
Production costs associated with printing directly onto the tubs influenced the design direction and resulted in the creation of a cost effective solution - individual sleeves wrap from the top and interlock at the base, allowing minimum reprint orders based on individual sales performance. This solution offered additional advantages. Packed into semi-transparent tubs, the intensity of each flavour is visible reiterating the gelato as presented on the front sleeve. The single scoop of gelato with various toppings spilling onto an icy pastel-blue striped background evoke memories of the canopies atop of old-fashioned ice cream carts of the 50’s. Tempting and promising sweet indulgences often associated with early childhood memories are ideas revealed on the reverse of the wrap through retro-styled snapshots of the il gelato family and their passion for authenticity. The shape of the wrap echoes that of a cone and is completed with simple typography and spot gloss UV finishes across the stripes further amplifying the enjoyment an icy gelato delivers on a hot summers day.
The client is seeing good results getting their product into places they could not before and currently expanding the range to different sizes.
