The project was to create an opening spread for a given article. In this case, the article follows a young photographer through his short time visiting Chicago. The goal was to create imagery that would incite the reader to read the article, while at the same time capturing the look of the photographer's photos and aesthetic.

My creative process was all over the place with this design. I started by focusing heavily on trying to create an interesting design. But the more I worked I noticed I was drifting away from the photographer's aesthetic and the overall content of the article I was highlighting. After this realization, I decided to take a few steps back and focus on highlighting the content that was needed to be shown by focusing on custom type and using their own photos to creative interacting elements.

The result was a minimal, and content-accurate design, that highlighted the actual content. being showcased. The success was the ability to have a visual interest while having to work with an aesthetic that lacked color.
