I was tasked with finding an uncommon Russian vodka brand to redesign and insert my own vision on how the essence of the vodka should be portrayed. This design for Youri Dolgoruki vodka, named after the founder of Moscow, was inspired by traditional Russian characteristics thrown into a modern twist.
I wanted to incorporate a very design oriented bear that would help display the nationalism of Russia. The busyness of the swirl patterns helps display a high-end elegance and fits snug in between all the parts of the bear to create a cohesive visual. The bear is set to be confident and show strength just like you'd imagine the taste of this vodka. The type is geometric, to offset the looseness of the swirls, and Russian influenced to further drive home the authenticity.
This project ended up being very successful. It went through many phases when altering the look of the bear and figuring out how the pattern flows nicely within. When creating a piece that is heavy on pattern like this, the main focus is nailing how the swirls fit together and coexist with the bear in the center. This package was well-liked by my teachers and classmates.
